Gucci Goes Fur Free!

Last month, Gucci announced that they're going FUR FREE!! I was amazed that the megabrand took this route, as their fur lined loafers are one of the top selling items that they sell. However, this is a great step forward in fashion as fur is an outdated and personally, socially unacceptable in this modern time.

Chief executive and president of Gucci, Marco Bizzarri, said that 'creativity can jump in many different directions instead of using furs.' This, I completely agree with and feel that using fur is NOT a creative direction at all. In fact, how can killing an innocent animal for its fur in any way be described as a creative direction. Here, I don't agree with the words that were used in the Bof interview as it feels shallow and disingenuous. Another reason I don't personally feel  happy with this interview is that he said 'the best talent will not come to work for Gucci' if they did not agree with there ethics. This made me think are they getting rid of fur for their own purpose?, or their ethical opinion on the use of fur? Surely they should understand that killing animals is completely unnecessary and sinister for the modern day we live in. Although I see the words of Marco Bizzarri's words in a negative light, I feel that Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, understood more of the reason why fur should not be used in this day, as he emphasised that “Fashion has always been about trends and emotions and anticipating the wishes and desires of consumers”. This to me says that he acknowledged that consumers were starting to frown down on the emotional side of the use of fur and wanted the megabrand to help push the discontinuing of fur.

I am so happy that Gucci are getting rid of the fur and becoming more up to date with their ethics such as Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Tommy Hilfiger. I feel that now the leading megabrand have ditched it, other high end brands will hopefully follow.
