Dorothy Draper - Interior Design

This week at uni, we have been looking at historical inspirations that have changed fashion norms and still inspire it today.  One that really stood out to me was Dorothy Draper who created designs for interiors and furnishings along with fabrics and accessories.

When reading about Dorothy Draper on https://www.dorothydraper.com/history/ , I found out that she was one of the people to make interior design a profession in 1923. I suppose before this it was always about tradition and just following how that time comes but Dorothy went completely opposite, using controversial designs and colours for its time. I also found out that she was the one to invent 'modern baroque' pieces. As a young teenager I loved this style and asked my parents to re-do my bedroom in this style for my birthday. I suppose I could say it was all thanks to Dorothy Draper.

When I read this quote, I couldn't think of any better way to describe her work as its almost like being taken into a child-like imaginary world of influence and imagination. with bold contrasting black to white with a splash of exciting colour. The clash of ultra-modern to tradition is almost surrealist in the way it sits within different spaces.
