Gary Card is a set designer who creates; still life, design, installations, shows, moving images and illustrations. Looking into his work, I can see his childish personality shining through all elements of his creations with captivating colours and characters. Gary Card has worked for some of the worlds most famous fashion brands such as Topshop, Balenciaga, Commes Des Garcons, Uniqlo and House Of Holland. Until earlier this year, Gary Card held his first art exhibition named 'Happy Breakfast' which had his art work and sculptures. I am happy he done this as although helping the biggest names in fashion, I feel as an artist he needs to be more recognised as working for fashion brands means you will only really be known in that sector.
I feel the people who Gary Card designs for, are a younger audience who can see humour in art and a disconnect to the real world as older people may look towards something with more tradition and simplified outcomes. I love Gary Cards work as the colours captivate me instantly and I love how his surreal characters create create a humorous effect onto the viewer. Humour is one thing that everyone likes to be entertained by so using this technique is a smart way to captivate a consumer.
