The Slogan Statement

House Of Holland
For the couple of years, on the catwalk and also on the high street, slogan t-shirts have been a major hit. I feel the reason for this predominantly a political statement, as recently there has been a lot being questioned. Also the revive of being a feminist came back into light in 2016/17 after many females have been coming out with sexual allegations against people such as Harvey Weinstein. This and many other celebrities have been accused of this and in the eyes of a feminist, a lot needs to change as young women may feel the pressures in certain industries to allow strong male forces behind their careers to intimidate and make them do things they most certainly don't want to. Another reason these could have been made is as Donald Trump became president in early 2017, a lot came out in the press about the way he may treat women. The realisation that women still don't have the respect we deserve, Dior took to their hands in 2016 a slogan t-shirt down their catwalk for their Spring/Summer collection communicating -

'WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS'

The history of the slogan tee dates back to the 1960's where political and social messages became in power of the working class people, where opinions really started to be shared and could change the world for the better. As we all know hippies were one of the biggest social changers in history as they shared views on peace and love instead of being corporate and conservative and to live the life as a free spirit. John Lennon in the 60's and 70's was a great representation of slogans as he used them a lot to share his views on the world.

Slogan t-shirts are a great way to get important messages across and to help others understand within a few seconds what exactly is happening. Bold statements get noticed very quickly and as technology has improved since the 60's, political signage is now being printed on t-shirts to make a statement that we can wear.
