Its a Trend - Packaging

This semester, me and my team at uni have been working towards creating a brand for a perfume. With this comes looking at what people are looking for now and what kinds of trends we can find out there that can help us with our aesthetic for our products and also for the brand itself.

When it comes to trends I like to look at WGSN which is a trend forecasting website. In absolute relief, I came across packaging trends for A/W 19/20 which was a great bit of research which could help us in a big way. I found this trend was called 'Free Style' and its really taking packaging in a new artistic direction.
When it comes to the new younger generation, aesthetics and the way something visually looks is very important as it is what motivates this consumer to generally decide if they will buy the product or not. Looking at brands such as L'oreal and other highstreet makeup brands don't hold as much reputation in contrast to brands such as Mac and Glossier. I feel the way these products display themselves just in the packaging feel as if they're better quality, even if they're not. I think the consumer is prepared to pay that little extra for something that feels and looks more expensive.

With this trend 'Free Style', Things which depict this style of packaging are characteristics which include:

-Expressive Art
-Surface Pattern
-Matte/Gloss juxtaposition finishes
-Industrial Materials
-Bold Colours

These are some of the colours from WGSN which are in packaging trends for AW 19/20
